The interaction between fiber and print

I have been exploring the theme of repetition through prints made from a woven substrate. I have created multiple iterations of what I am calling a ‘loom plate’. The process of designing and  redesigning the tool I needed has fueled some of my experimentation by encouraging repeated trial and error. After reaching a working version of this tool, which is made up of a laser-cut plate with holes in it that fits into a type-high base for printing, I was able to dive into the
repetitive and iterative element of the process.

In my original proposal, I discussed looking at the interaction between print and fiber and questioning the differences between art, design, and craft. My initial experimentation led me to a process of printing from a woven sample.

I am continuing my investigation of the interaction between fiber and print. However, after experimenting with different processes and materials, I am now broadening my definition of ‘fiber’ to include things like paper and plastic. I want to continue working with this printing process and continue to experiment with material and scale. By stepping away from the themes present in my original proposal, I am able to focus on the elements that I am most interested in, the material and the process.
