Product, Package, Poster

By the end of the last semester my thesis went from researching packaging design through the lense of un-boxing, to a much more abstract concept of creating unique packaging for the seven deadly sins. After reflecting upon the work completed within that time, and that works potential growth, I have decided that I am going to change my concept of the seven deadly sins to something else after guidance from the instructor. My focus on unique packaging design is going to remain the main focus of my thesis, but will now be accompanied by product design and poster design.

Package Design, Product Design, Poster Design

I am going to design a small number of products able to be digitally reproduced via 3D printing, vinyl cutting and/or laser cutting various media including cardboard, chipboard and acrylic. This product will be centered around a theme decided after recovering guidance on what conceptual direction to go.

For these products I will also design and craft unique packaging. This will be an expansion on my previous semesters research into structural and unique packaging. I will use this knowledge to craft various styles of packaging for the different products I will be designing.

To satisfy the constant worry that I would have some for of advertising to show after a four year educational career I will be producing posters for the packaged products. These posters will unify the product and the package into a visual micro-trinity. By doing this I will show that I can think critically about the creation of products, branding, and advertising.

To generate diversity, flexibility and constraint each product that will be packaged and branded will poses a unique aesthetic quality. This will produce a range of aesthetic styles, qualities and media all contained within on project.

Some of the books I have chosen in the research are:

The Elements of Typographic Style; Robert Bringhurst

Graphic Design Referenced, A Visual Guide to the Language, Applications, and History of Graphic Design; Bryony Gomez-Palacio, Armin Vit

Logotype, The Reference Guide to Logotypes, Monograms, and Text-based Marks; Michael Evamy

Symbol, The Refernece Guide to Abstract and Figurative Trademarks; Angus Hyland, Steven Bateman
Logo, The Reference Guide to symbols and logotypes; Michael Evamy
